	TRANSPONDER KEYS If your car was produced after 1995 it may have a transponder equipped immobiliser technology installed as a factory option. To be sure that your car is equipped with a transponder key Most likely to have a transponder key: Japanese cars sold here in New Zealand new after 1995. European models either new or imported after 1995. A high Japanese used import after 2000. A car of many make of model produced after 2005. Least likely to not have a transponder key: A Japanese used import. A low cost basic model of New Zealand new car Any car produced before 1995. A Transponder key needs to be recognised by the ECU of t he vehicle concerned before it will allow the engine to start.
